    In the changing era of digital technology, the safety standards for audio-visual products (AV) and information technology equipment (ITE) products have gradually changed from passive safety regulations (IEC/EN 60065 & IEC/EN 60950-1) in the past to actively preventing potential Dangerous safety standard IEC/EN 62368-1:2014 (Second Edition). In addition, the international standard IEC 62368-1:2018 and the EU standard EN 62368-1:2020 (both are referred to as the third edition) have also been launched in the market, which has caused many manufacturers to choose between the second and third editions. Update the product after the third edition is confirmed.

    As of April 2020, although the European Union EN 62368-1:2020 standard will be announced on 2021-01-26, the EU directive 2014/35/EU has not yet included EN 62368-1:2020 in the latest standard. For video and other products exported to Europe, we recommend using EN 62368-1: 2014 (Second Edition) in order to catch up with the deadline for the final update of the standard before the end of 2020 and grasp the market access opportunities. In addition, the United States and Canada have fully adopted UL 62368-1 as a national standard. The UL 62368-1 standard is expected to completely replace the current UL 60950-1 and UL 60065.

    What are the applicable products of 62368-1?

    The new standard is widely applicable to various high-tech products: electronic and electrical equipment, audio and video products, information technology products, commercial office automation equipment not exceeding 600V, power supply products, servers, monitors, TVs, laptops, personal computers and Computer peripheral products, etc.

    Is it possible to accept IEC 60950-1 /IEC 60065 certified parts?

    Yes, according to clause 4.1.1 in IEC 62368-1:2014 and IEC 62368-1:2018.

    The main differences between the 2014 and 2018 editions of IEC 62368-1

    1. For products with commonly used communication cables, such as USB or Ethernet (PoE), for DC power supply equipment, additional requirements must comply with IEC 62368-3.

    2. There are new requirements for switches and relays that are located in PS3 circuits or used as protection devices.

    3. Bridge capacitor, a Y2 capacitor can be used under conditions.

    4. Fire protection shell and fire barrier requirements:

     -Removed the description of the old version of forced convection graph 39

     -Added a new figure 40 to determine the top, bottom and side openings. Side angles greater than 5 degrees can be regarded as top or bottom openings.

     -Add side opening and opening characteristics, mainly the projection from PIS point down to 5 degree angle can be regarded as bottom opening.

    5. Touch the temperature limit and protection device, add a wearable device with a temperature limit of 43 to 48°C.

    6. For the requirements of wireless power transmitters, new requirements and tests for wireless power transmitters have been added.

    7. For ICs containing capacitor discharge function (ICX), modify the test method for ICs containing capacitor discharge function (ICX).
